imo, it's really simple! as an individual, if you're Chinese, you can say Happy Chinese New Year.if you're Korean, you can say Happy Seollal. if you're Vietnamese, you can say Happy Tet Holiday. and so on! but as a brand/corporate, be more respectful and inclusive, especially if you are still marketing to other groups of nationalities too! if you can't possible name all ways of calling this holiday in all countries and cultures ever, then the neutral term is Lunar New Year. It includes everyone and shouldn't be offensive to any either. it's undeniable that the term Chinese New Year has had a significant popularity even internationally, but that doesn't make it ultimately more right. it only proves that Chinese people are more in population, and also more culturally acknowledged even in Western media. isn't it the same issue where they assume Asians are just Chinese (and recently Korean or Japanese)? if that's an issue that's being addressed, then why is this not? and I'm not saying it has to be changed immediately, but don't be afraid to adapt new changes. Lunar New Year is the middle ground, the most neutral and inclusive term. If it doesn't offend any other countries like Korea or Vietnam that have their own ways of calling it too, I don't see why only particularly Chinese people have to be offended either. We can all be happy in the same holiday! it's my first time really talking about this online, but as a Vietnamese I have always tried to embrace my country's cultures and traditions irl whenever I can too! so I hope it just provides my personal side of things, and maybe as a Vietnamese as well! Happy Tet Holiday, Happy Lunar New Year! Let's stay positive, understanding and free of toxicity for a lovely start of the year!
